Keith Furones brings 40 years of expertise in the areas of construction management, project development and project finance. Growing up in the construction industry, combined with his undergraduate degree in Pre Law and advanced studies in Construction Law, were all contributing factors in a well-established reputation managing large-scale projects along the front range of Colorado. Clients there included Coors Brewing Company and the University of Colorado’s Boulder Campus and Colorado Health Sciences Center.

In 1998, he formed Simpson Furones Partnership, LLC where he practiced Project Development in a consultant’s role. As a member of the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) he implemented CSI practices in all of his projects and has a broad-based background in green building construction methods and materials. He developed expertise in environmental issues, as they pertain to water purification, when he headed up the highly sensitive University of Colorado Mountain Research Center’s Wastewater Treatment Plant. For this project, he coordinated six different government agencies by implementing virtual construction management and daily project updates via a dedicated website.  The environmental focus of this project was the protection of the habitat for the endangered species Colorado Native Greenback Trout in nearby Como Creek.

The latter part of his career has been devoted to Resort, Mixed Use, and Infrastructure projects in Latin America. For the past nine years, work has led him to both coasts of Mexico, Belize and Ecuador. Since Panama had the most advanced starting point for development in Latin America, it provided a great opportunity to build a truly environmentally aware and sustainable community model for the future. As a result, Simpson Furones International opened a permanent office in Panama in 2006.

Recent Panamanian projects include a unique restaurant called Pangea, the Visitors Center for Panama Pacifico and two LEED projects at Panama´s City of Knowledge; Commercial Center and Dormitories.

In 2010 he formed Steel Structures Panama with the owners of Metcon Global, providing Panama with the first green building option for light-weight, environmentally-friendly building envelopes that contribute toward LEED points (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design). Due to his lifelong talent for building guitars, known as a “luthier”, he has developed extensive knowledge in tropical hardwoods and is also involved in the sustainably harvested lumber industry of Panama, another important component of green building.

He is a member of the American Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Panama (AMCHAM) and the Panama Green Building Council (PGBC).

He is in the process of obtaining LEED-AP BD+C accreditation.
